YAMUNANAGR: Yamunanagar is on high-risk zone as far as AIDS is concerned. In the district 25 HIV positive cases have been deducted out of which 11 are full-blown cases.
Yamunanagar, which is geographically situated on the borders of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh is known as largest industrial town of Haryana where the labour community mostly migrated from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar live practically.
Truck fleet in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri is also the second largest in the state. Truck drivers keep on going through out the country, which is the main cause for increase of AIDS cases.
According to the survey conducted by the newsman it has been revealed that number of trucks has increased in recent past here because most of the raw material from Mine Zone situated here goes to Delhi for the construction of fly overs.
Supreme Court has banned mining in Faridabad area. It has been learnt that out of 25 HIV positive cases 9 truck drivers are carrying in this deadly disease. According to highly place sources out of 25 HIV positive patients there are 21 males and 4 females. It has been revealed that the ten patients are from the rural area and 15 from the urban. It is further learnt that one female died in the recent past who was from Jagadhri.
District Red Cross Community Care Centre has undertaken the survey job in Yamunanagar district. By now the 17567 persons have been counselled in 15 different colonies of Yamunanagar who have been educated about the repercussion of the disease.
Mr DR Sharma Secretary District Red Cross when contacted here informed that in Red Cross Community Care Centre Hospital two patients are under treatment, out of which there is one male and one female. He said that medicine, food fruits and others things are provided by the centre and they prefer to keep the name of the patients secret.
He said that number of camps including two at Truck Adda, 3 at Industrial area have been organized in the district to educate the people about this disease. Mr Sharma said that help from Panches/Sarpanches has also been taken in organizing the camps at rural area of the district.
He said that in addition to the camps condom and readable material has also been distributed. Even the stickers have been pasted on the trucks and hoardings have been placed at important junction of the city that informing how to avoid the killing disease.
In Yamunanagar district there are 700 Plywood/Veneer/Saw Mills units where regular exercise has been undertaken to educate the labour community. Even now the special care has been taken at 100 Bricks Kiln in the district.
The first ADIS case was reported in homosexuals in U.S.A. in 1981 and in India the first case was identified in Maumbai and Tamilnadu in 1986. Mr Sharma informed that the main symptoms of HIV/AIDS was recurrent fever weight loss, persistent Diarrhoea, Spots on the skin in different parts of the body, fatigue or tiredness and loss of appetite. He said that it is establish fact that 24 percent of total population in young between 15-24 years and everyday about 7000 people are affected.
He said that people at risk for H.I.V. are not allowed to donate blood. He said that an infected needle, blades are a razor can also transmit HIV.
There are three blood banks in Yamunanagar. The first blood bank was established at E.S.I. hospital with the efforts of Red Cross, Lions Club Yamunanagar-Jagadhri in the years 1993. The capacity of storage is 500 units whereas the other blood bank at Gaba Hospital and Shri Maa Blood Bank are also functioning well. Mr Sharma claimed that it is standing instruction to these blood banks to check HIV test.
Mr Sharma informed that Director General Health Service Dr BS Dahiya has appreciated the efforts of Mr Vijayendra Kumar Deputy Commissioner Yamunanagar for taking lot of interest to control the deadly disease. Dr Dahiya in a letter to Deputy Commissioner said that the Yamunanagar Community Care Centre will become a model centre in whole of India.
